Seren Friskie
Research Assistant
Seren Friskie is a third-year student in the honours Psychology program at Thompson Rivers University and Douglas College. Seren grew up in Mission, BC, and is a member of Sto:lo Nation, with additional Cree ancestry. She is involved in various research positions including the Impacts Project: Collaborations to address sexual violence on university and college campuses, the CMHA Youth branch, and the Crisis Centre of BC. Seren also volunteers in her community as an Indigenous Youth Counselor, with completion of the Aboriginal Focusing-Oriented Therapy & Complex Trauma Certificate. At SARAVYC, Seren will be working on the Indigenous Two-Spirit portfolio, within the Foundations grant. Seren chose SARAVYC because of her work within her own community. She has seen firsthand how trauma and stigma affect the lives of marginalized youth, and sees this research to be of great importance in our push for change.
